1. Product context
Apple has officially set the WWDC 2026 keynote for June 8 (local time). The center of gravity this year is unmistakably Siri 2.0. The long-delayed overhaul finally looks ready, and the more interesting wrinkle is the Extensions system that would formally bring Gemini and Claude into the fold.

2. Event basics
Pulling together Tom's Guide's WWDC 2026 preview and eWeek:
- Keynote: 2026-06-08 (Monday morning local)
- Conference window: June 8–12
- Venue: Apple Park (in-person plus online)
- Tease line: *"Coming Bright Up"* — TechRadar reads it as a Siri-redesign hint.
- Symbolism: Possibly Tim Cook's final WWDC — successor John Ternus is reportedly taking over on 2026-09-01.
3. Preview 1 — Siri 2.0
Siri's overhaul has been slipping since 2024. The shared read from eWeek and Tom's Guide is that this WWDC is finally the unveiling stage.
- Chatbot-style interface — Closer to ChatGPT or Gemini than a classic voice assistant
- New design — Dynamic Island integration, possibly even a standalone app
- Multi-step commands — Compound requests like "clean up my inbox and coordinate that meeting"
- Simultaneous launch across iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 / macOS 27 / watchOS 27 / tvOS 27 / visionOS 27
4. Preview 2 — Gemini and Claude Extensions
This is the most interesting piece. Per Smartprix and Tech Yahoo, Apple is preparing an Extensions system that lets Siri invoke external models — Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude among them.
"Apple Intelligence isn't going it alone — Apple is opening Siri so users can call out to whichever external model they prefer. If ChatGPT integration was phase one, this is the multi-model era."
— Paraphrased from Tom's Guide
| Model | Status |
|---|---|
| Apple Intelligence (in-house) | Default |
| ChatGPT (OpenAI) | Already integrated since iOS 18 |
| Gemini (Google) | Formal integration expected with iOS 27 |
| Claude (Anthropic) | Likely landing via Extensions |
Some reports describe Siri automatically routing queries to the appropriate model — general questions to Apple, coding to Claude, search-style intents to Gemini.
The thread from our Google I/O 2026 Gemini 3.5 recap plugs straight into WWDC. Formalizing the Apple-Google relationship is arguably the biggest narrative for June 8.

5. Preview 3 — the 27-series OS family
There's plenty of speculation on iOS 27 itself. Via Smartprix:
- Expanded design language introduced in iOS 26 (visionOS-influenced)
- Beefed-up AI widgets and Live Activities
- Better iPad multitasking
- Unified Siri invocation across every system screen
6. What about hardware?
WWDC is usually a software show, so hardware reveals tend to be limited. Surprises happen, though.
- Mac Pro / Mac Studio — Possible M5 Ultra
- Vision Pro 2 — Early reports exist but a WWDC reveal is unconfirmed
- New AirPods — Plausible alongside Siri's voice push
None of this is locked. The keynote livestream is the only certain source.
7. What developers should watch
"If the external-LLM Extensions API actually ships, the API itself will be a bigger story than Siri. The era of every iOS app shipping its own model integration could be ending."
— An iOS developer
- Apple Intelligence API scope — Guidance for integrating external models
- Foundation Models framework updates — On-device model leverage
- Live Activities and App Intents — Potential expansion
- Xcode 27 — Deeper AI code-assistant integration (Cursor and Claude Code competition)

8. TL;DR
- WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8 (Monday morning local)
- Headliner: Siri 2.0 — chatbot UI with Dynamic Island integration
- Gemini and Claude Extensions — external models callable beyond Apple's own
- iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 / macOS 27 / visionOS 27 and the rest of the 27 family expected together
- Possibly Tim Cook's last WWDC — John Ternus reportedly taking over 2026-09-01
We'll publish a recap right after the keynote. In the meantime, Apple Newsroom and the official livestream remain the most accurate sources.
